Using Large-Scale FDTD Method to Obtain Precise Numerical Estimation of Indoor Wireless Local Area Network Office Environment

چکیده
SUMMARY The Finite-Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) technique is presented in this paper as an estimation method for radio propagation prediction in large and complex wireless local area network (WLAN) environments. Its validity is shown by comparing measurements and Ray-trace method with FDTD data. The 2GHz (802.lIb/g) and 5GHz (802.lIa) frequency bands are used in both the calculations and experiments. The electric field (E-field) strength distribution has been illustrated in the form of histograms and cumulative ratio graphs. By using the FDTD method to vary the number of human bodies in the environment, the effects on E-field distribution due to human body absorption are also observed for 5 GHz WLAN design. key words: finite-difference-time-domain (FDTD) method, wireless local area network (WLAN), indoor propagation, histogram, human absorption

Growing interest in providing and improving radio coverage for mobile phones and wireless LANs inside buildings has recently emerged. The need of such coverage appears mainly in office buildings, shopping malls in very complex environment. Although the three dimensional FDTD method has shown great promise, the calculation time is very environment dependent and exceeds the calculation time of ra...
متن کاملThroughput Measurements and Numerical Prediction Methods for IEEE802.11n Wireless LAN Installations at 2.4 GHz in a Residential Two-Story House
This paper discusses how to predict indoor propagation characteristics in a two-story house by measurements and numerical simulations. Measurement campaigns in two different locations of access point are made to obtain a relationship between RSSI and throughput. In addition FDTD calculation results are compared with measured ones to confirm the effectiveness of measurements.

With the rapid growth of indoor wireless communication systems, the need to accurately model radio wave propagation inside the building environments has increased. Many site-specific methods have been proposed for modeling indoor radio channels. Among these methods, the ray tracing algorithm and the finite-difference time domain (FDTD) method are the most popular ones. The ray tracing approach ...
متن کاملImpact of Indoor Environment on Path Loss in Body Area Networks
In this paper the influence of an example indoor environment on narrowband radio channel path loss for body area networks operating around 2.4 GHz is investigated using computer simulations and on-site measurements. In contrast to other similar studies, the simulation model included both a numerical human body phantom and its environment-room walls, floor and ceiling. As an example, radio signa...
